Watch Brazilian Coritiba Football Fans Riot!
PLAYERS of Brazil second division club Coritiba fought with their own fans in an airport, after a hostile reception on return from an away game today.
Around 50 fans waited for the players at the airport, in southern Brazil, to protest and insult the team following the previous night's 2-0 defeat by Ceara.
Television pictures showed chaotic scenes as the players entered the arrivals hall to be greeted by furious supporters.
Witnesses said that several players and the club security hit back, exchanging punches with the fans, while litter bins were thrown around the hall.
The fighting lasted several minutes before police brought the situation under control.
Coritiba later condemned the supporters' behaviour.
"The supporters have every right to peacefully show their discontent over the results on the field, and even in relation to the directors and the president," said a club statement.
"But we can't agree that violence and aggression are the methods used to show opinions."
