UK Top 10 TV viewing figures for week 3, from #BARB 15th - 21st January 2024.

BBC dominated the charts, captivating viewers with The Traitors and Gladiators.

Coronation Street returned to the top 10 as the highest rated UK soap opera for the week.

ITV's Mr Bates vs The Post Office became the most watched programme on UK TV during the first seven days of the New Year, causing quite a stir in the media as the nation talked about the scandal. The Masked Singer and Vera helped ITV lead over the BBC - which had to contend with 4 programmes inside the Top 10.

BBC1 dominated the Top 10 over the festive period with favourites Dr Who, Strictly Come Dancing and Call The Midwife all riding high. ITV's Vera was the sole entry for the final viewing figures of 2023.

Christmas Day Top 10 TV Viewing Figures - 2011

Christmas Day viewing figures proved to be good once again for the BBC, but ITV had plenty of festive cheer as Coronation Street and Downton Abbey were among the most watched programmes this Christmas. The Ad Fab special proved a hit with viewers later in the evening when Patsy and co returned once more, keeping 7.5m entertained.

The top ten most-watched programmes on Christmas Day were as follows:

Top 10 TV Shows 2010

ITV dominated the Top 10 programmes of 2010, with the X Factor results beating the BBC's World Cup match between England and Germany. Reality TV continued to attract millions throughout 2010 with four programmes making it into this year's chart. The viewing figures below exclude Christmas viewing, which will be produced separately.

Could Roland Rat Save Daybreak?

As ITV's troubled Daybreak sheds viewers quicker than the Lib Dems shed voters, maybe the only choice would be to bring in 80's legend Roland Rat.

Viewers have been deserting the breakfast programme since it took over from GMTV in September. This week saw Daybreak drop to 545,000 viewers, some 860,000 viewers behind their BBC rivals. It seems that the costly duo, Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley have failed to attract breakfast viewers to ITV.

Back in the early 80's TV-AM was launched to rival BBC Breakfast, yet very early on ITV was being trouted in the rating war. Then bosses brought in Roland Rat (pictured above) with his side-kick Kevin the Gerbil. Within weeks, TV-AM had become the breakfast darling and quickly became the top breakfast programme.

ITV needs to bring in somebody or some animal in order to perk up the viewers, Adrian and Christine have the right chemistry but the programme needs something more. TV-AM is a classic example of how to turn a breakfast programme around - so bring out Roland Rat or Zig and Zag to liven up the show.

Eastenders Live Viewing Figures

The live Eastenders episode was a massive winner for the BBC as 16.6 million viewers tuned in to find out who murdered Archie for the 25th anniversary special.

Viewing figures peaked as Stacey Slater confessed all as Bradley Branning fell to his death in the dramatic live episode, with the episode averaging just under 15m and another 1.42m tuning in for the repeat on BBC3 later.

Eastenders live had almost six out of every ten viewers watching the conclusion of one of soaps best kept secrets ever, easily beating rivals and producing one of the best Eastenders viewing figures in years. The Christmas Day 1986 episode of 30.15m still remains the most watched British soap as Den Watts handed divorce papers to his wife Angie.

It was also a record night for BBC3, which saw 4.3m tune in for Eastenders Live: The Aftermath. This was the highest viewed programme ever on BBC3 and a new record for a multichannel programme.

Top 20 New Year's Day TV Viewing Figures 2010

Here are the Top 20 viewing figures for New Year's Day, once again Eastenders topped the TV chart with David Tenant's final Dr Who episode finishing in second place. BBC One dominated the Top 20 again (see Christmas Day TV Viewing Figures HERE). The final Gavin and Stacey episode was lower than Christmas Day and Channel 4 managed 17th with Jimmy Carr's Big Fat Quiz Of The Year 2009. ITV had seven of the Top 20 programmes, an improvement on Christmas Day's performance.

Eurovision Viewing Figures Improve

The wet weather seems to have lifted this years viewing figures for the Eurovision Song Contest on BBC1. As Norway romped to victory with Alexander Rybak's 'Fairytale', the UK enjoyed it's highest score since 1998 with Jade Ewen finishing fifth, performing 'It's My Time'.

Eurovision gained an extra 700,000 viewers this year as an average of 7.8m tuning into the spectacular music event hosted by Russia. No expense was spared as Russia spent £20m putting on the best stage event ever seen during the 54 years of Eurovision. Viewing figures peaked as the final results came in - with almost 10m tuning in to finds out how the UK had fared in the contest. Over on ITV, Britain's Got Talent was watched by 9.8m - down on previous weeks but

still ahead of the Eurovision Song Contest.
