Real Reason Susan Boyle Lost Britain's Got Talent

Susan Boyle losing Britain's Got Talent must be one of the biggest shock results this decade has produced from a reality TV series. Watched by 19.2 million viewers on ITV, with millions more watching around the world, this series of BGT became the most popular and talked about.

No-one was more talked about than Susan Boyle, she became an overnight sensation as she became a hit with the judges, audience and the viewers. Millions of hits on YouTube and becoming a TV star in the United States seemed to seal Susan Boyle's fate. Bookies had her as the favourite to win, the newspapers were full of stories about her and the pressures of the final week but ultimately it was the general public who would have the last say as they cast their votes in the millions.

The real reason Susan Boyle lost Britain's Got Talent was because we love losers more than we do winners and while Diversity were no losers, the voting public just couldn't vote Susan Boyle to win because they already felt she had won - thanks to all the additional publicity generated by her previous performances. As Brits we prefer to see someone struggle in life and then make it, rather than someone who is talented and has it all. Although Susan had initially struggled (that is why she won our hearts), by the final she already had it all. Everyone knew she would become a massive star so it was time to give someone else a chance. Looking at the finalists of Britain's Got Talent shows just how much we like those who battle to get somewhere - whether it's Hollie with her tears, proud father and son duo Stavros Flatley or third place runner-up Julian Smith with his saxophone.

Being too good or talented can be a downfall sometimes, as Susan Boyle found out - yet she can be assured that now she is a 'loser' again the British public will love her!

  1. If what you say is true then it doesn't say much for the Brits except they like to keep people in their place. Sounds like a small minded mentality to me. Its like saying she was over qualified for the job. No matter ,Susan's`bigger than all of you.
