Primeval has been axed from ITV as the channel continues to make cuts, even though the series has grown in popularity - becoming cult status. The third series started off with 5.3m viewers in April, which was down on previous series but still respectable for ITV.
"After three very successful series of Primeval there are no plans at the present time for it to return to ITV. High-quality drama remains a key part of the ITV schedule although our current focus is on post-watershed productions," an ITV spokesman said.
There had been talk that Primeval could have been made for the Sci Fi channel and then sold on to ITV, but this is now looking unlikely as the network makes drastic cuts to programming.
