Awards 2009: Oscar Nominations

The Oscar Award nominations have been revealed and the full list appears below, with British hopes resting on 'Slumdog Millionaire' after it's success at recent award ceremonies. The Academy Awards take place on February 22nd 2009 in Los Angeles.

Other nominations are Meryl Streep, Kate Winslet, Brad Pitt and Sean Penn while Heath Ledger is expected to receive a posthumous Award as Best Supporting Actor - for his role as the Joker in The Dark Knight.

Best Actor:

Best Actress:

Best Supporting Actor:
Heath Ledger ("The Dark Knight"), Josh Brolin ("Milk"), Michael Shannon ("Revolutionary Road"), Robert Downey Jr. ("Tropic Thunder") and Philip Seymour Hoffman ("Doubt").

Best Supporting Actress:
Penelope Cruz ("Vicky Cristina Barcelona"), Amy Adams ("Doubt"), Viola Davis ("Doubt"), Taraji P. Henson ("The Curious Case of Benjamin Button") and Marisa Tomei ("The Wrestler").

Best Director:
David Fincher ("The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"), Danny Boyle ("Slumdog Millionaire"), Gus Van Sant ("Milk"), Ron Howard ("Frost/Nixon") and Stephen Daldry ("The Reader").

Best Animated Feature:
