Klaxons Beat Winehouse To Scope Mercury Award

The Klaxons have pipped Amy Winehouse in the battle for the Mercury Music Award Prize. The London band's debut album Myths of the Near Future beat off stiff competition from Amy Winehouse, Jamie T and last year's winners the Arctic Monkeys to take home the prestigious award. The four-piece collected a cheque for £20,000 from Jools Holland during a ceremony at London's Grosvenor House Hotel, reports DigitalSpy.

Amy Winehouse made her first public appearance since checking into rehab. Her album "Back To Black" still continues to dominate the charts, even after her father-in-law called for a boycott.

  1. Bat For Lashes should have won this.

I think, out of all nominees, Klaxons were my least favourite.

Amy Winehouse shouldn't have won, so it is good she didn't. She has the big commercial awards to contend for. The Mercury prize is the little people's chance to shine.
