Eurovision Review

Saturday night was Eurovision night and I had a few friends around to join in the spectacle. Martin waves the flag for the UK, but we were doomed from the start, as Daz Sampson finished 19th. Jayne (and Tom) really entered into it, and Tom even got to vote for the winners Finland.
Poor Norm had to sit through the whole event as he was here for the weekend. Even the room was decorated with the Union Jack flag and previous Eurovision UK entries.
We had scorecards and marked each song based on 4 sections, then at the end we add up the Top 5 scores and Croatia won the total votes so we phoned that through. Sadly the rest of the UK didn't vote for it so it got "nil" points from the UK (but it didn't do too badly overall!)
Our top 5 were:

5th - Lithuania 64 points
4th - Denmark 136 points
3rd - Finland 186 points
2nd - United Kingdom - 187 points
1st - Croatia - 219 points

For all those visiting the Blog cos of Lithuania, here are the lyrics to "We are the Winners" (you can see the video further down in this Blog):

We Are the Winners(Music: A. Mamontovas / S. Urbonavicius, Lyrics: A. Mamontovas / V. Diawara)Performed by LT United

Eurovision 2005 Is Coming

Eurovision 2005 Posted by Hello

Its just 72 more days til the Eurovision Song Contest Final and I`m already gearing up for the best thing to ever come out of Europe. There is no other even in the world quite like "Eurovision", the Brits may not take it seriously but I know I love the whole event.
Javine is the United Kingdom entry this year with "Touch My Fire", it was the song I voted for last Saturday night, as I was frantically getting ready to go out. It made my night knowing she had won the UK selection.
The weekend of Eurovision in May I was going to see Geri as well but now she has postponed her tour I`ll have the whole weekend to get hyper, drunk and into a Euro frenzy.

Watch out for more Eurovision "tit" bits!!

Eurovision Song Contest - Update

Image hosted by Photobucket.com Eurovision Song Contest 2005 -UPDATE

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/eurovision/2005

It is just 9 days until the Semi - Final and I am starting to get excited - yep you've guessed it, I am one sad individual. But I can't help it - Eurovision brings out the best in me. I love the different styles of music and absolutely love the voting. Last year I got into it BIG time and was hoping to do a party this year since it is the 50th Eurovision , but sadly I have no money so will be celebrating all that is Eurovision next Saturday with some good friends of mine.

Last year I was on DenDen and made quite a night of it - flag waving , wine drinking and score pad at the ready.......... Only to wake up about 4am with a bottle of wine in my hand. I felt like Patsy from Ab Fab! I think going to the Eurovision websites before the event got me more hyper and made me more interested in the event cos I could hear all the songs before the contest. No wonder I ordered the CD and DVD from Amazon following the fantastic event in Turkey last May.

This year I am more hopeful of the UK entry - Javine "Touch My Fire" as it has a more Eastern European feel to it, so I am hoping it will score well. I'm going to try and listen to all the other songs now on the BBC website to get me in the mood for next Thursday's Semi Final (shown on BBC3).

I love Eurovision!!!

Eurovision: "We Are The Winners"

Lithuania - LT United - "We Are The Winners"

Eurovision wouldn't be Eurovision without songs like this:

"We are the winners We are, we are!
We are the winners We are, we are!
We are the winners of Eurovision
We are, we are! We are, we are!
We are the winners of Eurovision
We are, we are! We are, we are!
So, you gotta vote,Vote, vote for the winnersVote, vote, vote for the winners"

I'm predicting a good finish for the Lithuainian entry this year as this song is fun and catchy. I had it on repeat in my car today as I shouted out the simple lyrics from above. Possibly this years Eurovision anthem?

Not sure the video link will work but give it a try:

or: http://www.bbc.co.uk/broadband/mediawrapper/consoles/eurovision2006/bb_rm_console.shtml?pack3-lithuania_4x3

Lets hope this excellent Euro track can get Lithuania through the semi final next Thursday!

Eurovision: Let's Get Daz Sampson Back!

You might remember Daz Sampson from the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest with his rap tune "Teenage Life". While it he may have failed to secure the points, it hasn't stopped him creating a brand new Eurovision tune. "Do A Little Dance" is an infectious song that will have you hooked after just one play. Sadly the BBC don't agree and have banned it from making the short list, according to Popjustice.com.

I say, "let's get Daz Sampson back in Eurovision" - whoever you are, where ever you are - download the song and promote it however you see fit. Check out the video I made today in honour of this true Eurovision hit that may never be.......................

New 'Abba' Song Returns To Eurovision Style

It's Eurovision season and it looks like ABBA have returned with a song made for the song contest. OK, slightly misleading as only half of ABBA have returned and the song isn't actually in the Eurovision Song Contest!

The bearded half of ABBA (yes the men!) - Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus are returning to their pop roots with their first pop songs in fifteen years and I've got to admit they are pretty damn good ( I'm a sucker for Euro pop and all things tacky). The video below entitled "Second Best To None" was written by the ABBA duo and features employees from the Hotel Rival in Stockholm.

The ABBA men have enjoyed a good working relationship since the demise of ABBA and enjoyed acclaimed success with Chess the musical in the 80's and other projects. The Benny Andersson Band will be releasing their English translation material in the UK on July 6th.

Maybe we could get ABBA to work on our Eurovision entry song for next year.............

    Eurovison Viewing Figures To Drop

Eurovision looks set to lose even more viewers this year as the song contest once again goes head-to-head with ITV's Britain's Got Talent.

Viewing figures could well drop below seven million for the annual song contest with UK viewers opting for comfort with British talent rather than the prospect of a humiliating finish in Eurovision.

Last year 7.1m watched the Eurovision Song Contest as Andy Abraham came joint last and Terry Wogan bowed out after 30 years of hosting the event. This year less than 7m are expected to tune in as Jade performs 'It's My Time' for the UK. She is looks set to be a surprise hit with voters as the song has been well received across Eurpope and looks set for a decent result. Britain's Got Talent has been enjoying weekly viewing figures above the 11m mark as the programme continues to make headlines around the world, and could help end the UK's love/hate relationship with Eurovision. Two years ago 8.7m viewers were watching Eurovision on the BBC but a dip below 7m could raise calls for the long running event to be axed amid cries of block voting and frustration.

Whatever the result, British viewers will be glued to their TV sets watching men and women desperate for their 15 minutes of fame...................

    Eurovision Viewing Figures Improve

The wet weather seems to have lifted this years viewing figures for the Eurovision Song Contest on BBC1. As Norway romped to victory with Alexander Rybak's 'Fairytale', the UK enjoyed it's highest score since 1998 with Jade Ewen finishing fifth, performing 'It's My Time'.

Eurovision gained an extra 700,000 viewers this year as an average of 7.8m tuning into the spectacular music event hosted by Russia. No expense was spared as Russia spent £20m putting on the best stage event ever seen during the 54 years of Eurovision. Viewing figures peaked as the final results came in - with almost 10m tuning in to finds out how the UK had fared in the contest. Over on ITV, Britain's Got Talent was watched by 9.8m - down on previous weeks but
still ahead of the Eurovision Song Contest.

    Eurovision Semi Final Results

    What the hell?

I've just finally watched the Eurovision Semi Final (I decided that going out and enjoying alcohol and then having a good sleep and a spot of masturbation a higher priority!). As always I like to score each of the songs and as with last year I got 5 right and 5 wrong.

Here are the 10 that go through to Saturday's final:

    Russia
    FYR Macedonia
    Bosnia & Herzegovina
    Lithuania
    Finland
    Ukraine
    Ireland
    Sweden

    Turkey
    Armenia

The countries that are bold were my choices to go through, and listed below are the 5 other countries I thought should go through:

    Belgium
    Cyprus
    Monaco
    Poland
    Iceland

I'm shocked that Belgium, a 14-1 favourite didn't make it and Iceland got booed because of her earlier comments about Greece (which she said sorry for later).

Indeed Saturday will be a Euro feast of weird songs, bizarre voting and shock results. Daz Sampson is putting up a brave fight and I'm surprised the bookies have him @ 12-1 (according to www.paddypower.com as of 18/05/2006 before Semi Final results). Ithink he'll finish lower than 15th, but this is Eurovision, so you just never know how it will turn out.

My top 10 songs will be nothing like the final top 10 that will be voted for on Saturday!

My favourite to win is still Anna Vissi from the host country Greece is still my choice to win, with a surprise showing from Croatia's Severina with her light bulb changing dance song. My outside choice is from Lithuania's LT United "We Are The Winners".

    Eurovision - Weird and Wonderful

It wouldn't be Eurovision without the fantastic costumes and outrageous dance moves. As the pictures above show - Eurovision 2006 next week will not let us down. I've just seen Iceland's rehearsal via YouTube.com and if that's anything to go by - it's going to be a night to remember. Each year we get a few countries like Germany that make Eurovision such fun to watch.
So whether it's bad costumes or bad tunes, Eurovision is one televisual event not to be missed.

(I've not even got on to the subject of voting, that's a whole new topic of discussion..........)

Eurovision Song Contest FINAL Result 2007

    Serbian winner.

Serbia's Marija Serifovic went on to win the Eurovision Song Contest Final 2007, as the results table below shows. As with the Semi Final, Eastern European nations dominated the contest while the "power 5" Western nations all finished near the bottom.

Even though the UK once again finished near the bottom with just 19 points, Scooch can be proud with their performance and their UK Chart position today has "Flying The Flag" at #5, which is the highest charting Eurovision song for a good number of years.Viewing figures from the UK also look healthy, with over night forcasts indicating around 11.3 million tuned in.

Here are the final results from the Eurovision contest:

    robmacca's "Flying The Flag" Video

Scooch may well be representing GB at this years Eurovision Song Contest with their high camp song "Flying The Flag", but robmacca couldn't resist having a bit of fun while out at friends this week.

A Eurovision conversation and a few classic GB winning YouTube videos later - led robmacca and his friend Clare to make a fun copy-cat video on the spot. Enjoy the video and don't forget the Eurovision Song Contest is on BBC1 Saturday night......................

Eurovision: UK Enters Worst Song EVER!

The UK seem to have given up on Eurovision and have voted for a song that will earn them "nil" points at this year's Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade, Serbia on May 24th.
Andy Abraham's "Even If" song beat off a poor selection of Eurovision hopefuls but looks set to have the UK propping up the bottom of the leader board when Europe votes in the contest.
Ireland will easily beat the UK in this year's contest for their turkey entry because it has more substance than the totally bland "Even If" song. At the end of the day - you get what you vote for!
You can watch the dire Andy Abraham's "Even If" here:

Big Brother v Eurovision Semi Final

It's the clash of the titans on Thursday as Channel 4 launches Big Brother 7 as BBC3 airs the Eurovision Song Contest Semi Final.

While Big Brother will win audience wise , I've decided NOT to tune in and watch it. That way I'll hopefully not let myself get hooked over the summer, wasting hours of precious time. It annoys me they put the launch day to a Thursday instead of the usual Friday and this year BB is even longer.
Call me evil, but I'm hoping it flops rating wise - it's about time Channel 4/E4 made quality educational programmes rather than this mindless dribble that hooks suckers like me each year!

Now, sad is something I am cos instead I'll be watching BBC3 and the Eurovision Song Contest Semi Final. Yet it's my day off on Friday so a great opportunity to go out and get drunk Thursday night - so if I stay in and watch it, then I'll have missed the chance to get drunk on a Thursday and NOT have to get up for work (unlike last week!).

I'll let you know Friday whether I buckled under pressure and watched BB7 or was sad and stayed in to watch the Eurovision Semi Final rather than going out to have a good night out.........

    UK "Eurovision Song Contest" News

Former Hear'Say singer Kym Marsh and ex-Blue star Antony Costa are bidding to become this year's UK Eurovision entry.
The former chart stars - once members of the nation's biggest-selling bands - are among six acts going for glory.
Each will perform their song on TV and the public will decide who will represent the UK at the Eurovision Song Contest in Athens.
Marsh's song is a ballad called Whisper My Name.
Costa will sing a Motown-style tune called Beautiful Thing.
The other acts are singer-songwriter Goran Kay, male vocal harmony group Four Story, girl duo City Chix, and Daz Sampson, who was a founder of dance act Uniting Nations and had a top 20 hit in 2004 with Out Of Time.
Sir Terry Wogan and Natasha Kaplinsky will host the Making Your Mind Up show on BBC1 on March 4, when the performers will be put to the vote.
The Eurovision Song Contest takes place on May 20.

Ireland Enter A Turkey For Eurovision!

    Dustin the Turkey

With just three months until the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest, Ireland has caused the biggest stir of the year by entering a puppet as it's chosen artist. Dustin the Turkey was the winner of the vote this weekend and could go on to cause the biggest upset in Eurovision history - unless he gets banned before!

Hat's off to the Irish, who have come up with a great idea. Let's face it - Ireland had only entered crap songs in recent years anyway! Maybe the UK could take a feather from Dustin, and enter something wild and wacky for this years contest.

Check out the funny video here:

A Year in Blog Land - Review of 2006

    January:

We predicted that the Arctic Monkeys would be big in 2006, and by golly they were - their album broke records as the fastest selling album and went on to sell over 1m in the UK alone.

Son of Dork didn't quite do so well, in fact their album was less than 3 quid in the bargain bins today!

Brokeback Mountain was all the rage at the box office and the award ceremonies soon followed with gong after gone for this moving film. We even featured a picture of Heath Ledger naked.

Video Blogging was another prediction for 2006 - who would have thought YouTube would be sold for over $1b. Now everyone uses videos on their blog or MySpace.

    February:

The controversial Islamic cartoons caused worldwide storm but raised the question about censorship. The Brits, NME, BAFTA's and Grammy's kept the blog busy with a celebration of British music and movies. Meanwhile news that Kym Marsh (ex- Hear'Say) and Anthony Costa (ex- Blue) were hopefuls for the UK entry in Eurovision was closely followed by Las Ketchup announcing they were entering for Spain................. none of them had need bother - neither Kym nor Anthony made it as the UK entry and Las Ketchup faired badly in the contest.

Ashley Cole kept the tabloids busy with allegations of drunken phone sex and two footballers performing oral sex on each other. The blog also had a sexy picture of singer Simon Webbe - topless!

    March:

You could find out "31 Things About robmacca" this month and you were invited to "Spank The Monkey" at the same time. Eurovision got hot with some saucy pictures and video's of certain contestants doing the rounds!

The Commonwealth Games went to Australia and some interesting pictures followed, then Australia came here as one of my forum friends came to visit me in a mad 24 hour meet up.

Melanie C scored a #1 in Spain for 4weeks with "First Day of my Life", Melanie Brown dyed her hair red and Posh Spice looked darn sexy in black.

One unusual topic covered in March was the "Non- Uniform Day" that had thousands out in the streets................. erm naked!

    April:

Girls Aloud turned up looking stunning at the "Alien Autopsy" premier in London, robmacca spent nights out with strangers and friends and footballer Ronaldo looked hot in or out of clothes as the pictures showed!

Talking of showing a bit of flesh - we showed a picture of Prince William showing more than we are used to seeing - but was it fake? Maybe you'd like to confess all to God in an interactive blog topic which allowed you to type and talk to God!

    May:

It was music galore as Take That performed a stunning concert return, Girls Aloud amazed crowds in their nationwide tour and Eurovision Song Contest fever took over the blog.

Robmacca posted a drunken video - singing along to ABBA and Geri Halliwell posed in Hello magazine with baby Bluebell Madonna.

Finally, it was time to get into the mood ahead of the World Cup, by posting a selection of sexy footballers pictures - just for the fun of it!

    June:

'Definitely Maybe' by Oasis top the NME "Best Album of All Time Poll", 5 Celebs get pictured showing their knickers and the Ordinary Boys become popular. The video for "Hips Don't Lie" by Shakira gets featured on the blog, then went on to spend 4 weeks at #1 in the UK charts. It was also announced that Top of the Pops would be axed after 42 years on the BBC.

Football fever took over the world as the World Cup arrived, along with about a million pop songs to milk that fact. Robmacca turned his hand to poetry when he wrote about being Prince Harry for the day, then seemed to turn into a James Blunt lookalike.

The end of June meant two weeks holiday in Cyprus - so to celebrate, new clothes were bought and a batch of pictures of guys in pants were published on the blog!

    July

The British summer meant July became "Topless Month" on the Blog and on the streets. Robmacca got naked in Cyprus and just about everyone else got topless as the summer sun made us all hot and horny. The World Cup concluded with a controversial final between France and Italy. To celebrate Italy's win, some semi naked pictures of Fabio Cannavaro made it during July's blogging.

Love was in the air as Melanie Brown and Eddie Murphy started dating, it was announced love would be in your hand as Britain was to stage it's first "Wank-a-thon" and talk of a Spice Girls reunion surfaced once again to celebrate 10 years since they first exploded into the pop world.

    August:

The nakedness continued even if the weather wasn't as good - robmacca posted some "bath time" pictures that whipped up a storm with Blog viewers. We had the Lynx man getting naked on our TV screens and 154 people sat around wanking in front of each other during the "Wank-a-thon" event in London.

Sex must have been in the water as a survey shockingly revealed that Britain's teens were not using condoms during sex and another finding showed that 30% of teenagers lost their virginity before the age of 16.
In the music world - Madonna celebrated her 48th, The Brits are going live in 2007 and Boy George was reduced to cleaning the streets!

    September:

Summer ended with a colourful collection of pictures from the garden. There were also pictures of friends past and present during a visit to London. New friends were made thanks to the Hospitality Club. Bjork announces she will reunite with the Sugarcubes for a one off event, Corinne Bailey Rae wins some MOBO Awards and Arctic Monkeys - "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not" wins the Mercury Award. We didn't even mention the robmacca "bedroom pictures" (at least this time the clothes stayed on!) ....................

    October

It was a Spicy month as Melanie B became pregnant with Eddie Murphy's baby and was spotted in London with a mystery man. Emma Bunton became the face of Children in Need and Strictly Come Dancing, and was also rumoured to be marrying long term boyfriend Jade Jones.

Victoria Beckham was constantly in the media spotlight as she teamed up with Katie Holmes for the Paris Fashion Week, later that month 3,000 turned up to her book launch at Selfridges in London. Posh and Becks topped the "Chav Rich List" published in the Daily Mail.

Prince Harry was reported to have got his privates out on parade, the Spice Girls reunion looked unlikely and we asked if the MySpace bubble was about to burst. October's blog also featured lads in pants and David Beckham semi naked.

    November

Was the comeback month - with Take That launching their album at the end of the month, Simon Webbe was back with a new album (another good excuse to show pictures of him topless!) and Top of the Pops makes a return for Christmas.

Christmas looming and Royal Mail stir up a fuss with their "non religious" stamps, Girls Aloud switched on the Christmas lights at Harrods, Emma Bunton did the Convent Garden Christmas Lights and we posted some Christmas gift idea's - including sheep that poo chocolate!

Spice news came in the form of Melanie B choosing wedding invites, Melanie C releasing a LIVE HITS DVD with a signing and singing at HMV Oxford Street, Emma released the single "Downtown". Victoria went shopping at Oxfam while her book went straight in at #2 in the non-fiction section. Geri was promoting safe sex in Zambia as part of her UN Goodwill Ambassador work as well as being on the cover of OK magazine with her baby.

It wouldn't be right to pass the month without some pictures of underwear and both Sarah Harding and robmacca were featured. It was Sarah though that got all the attention from visitors to the blog!

    December

December was all about Melanie Brown and Eddie Murphy as news broke that they'd split in sensational style. As each day unfolded, the blog brought the latest twists and turns. Hundreds came to read the news as it became global. There were more rumours of a Spice Girls reunion and Emma Bunton released her album "Life in Mono" but it only charted at #65, selling 12,000 copies.

We remembered the Cheeky Girls and welcomed Take That back to the top of the album and singles chart. There was the quiet launch of "robmaccaEXTRA" that provided more pictures than the normal blog. The year wouldn't be complete without more Sarah Harding underwear pictures and finally the year was completed by Jesse Melcalf.

Hope you all enjoyed the Blog in 2006 and I look forward to 2007 - bringing even more randomness and extras. Have a great New Year!

    Eurovision Winner Rybak Breaks Trophy

Alexander Rybak broke his Eurovision trophy within minutes, according to reports in The Sun. Apparently the 23-year-old was a bit heavy handed when he put the trophy down on the stage, causing the glass to shatter.

It's not all bad news for the Norwegian winner, his single 'Fairytale' looks set to be a massive hit around Europe. Here in the UK his Eurovision winner is riding high in the downloads chart and looks set to enter the Top 40 on Sunday.

Eurovision: Britain Makes It's Mind Up!

It's that time of the year where the UK voting public vote for the song they want to represent the nation for this years Eurovision Song Contest. Although recent years haven't faired too well for the UK, it hasn't stopped some well known musicians stepping forward for their stab at winning the most ridiculed musical event televised in the UK.
The most famous UK winners were Bucks Fizz back in 1981, and press reports in The Sun say the group look set to perform for the first time in 20 years, during Saturday nights "Making Your Mind Up" show on BBC1. Over 210,000 applications were made for the 600 seats available for the programme, according to Eurovision websites.

This years UK song hopefuls are:
    1. Justin Hawkins (The Darkness) & Beverlei Brown
    2. Liz McClarnon (Atomic Kitten)
    3. Brian Harvey (East 17)
    4. Big Bruvaz
    5. Scooch
    6. Cindi
