Blue Enter Eurovision Song Contest For UK

This year the UK will be represented by former chart topping band Blue. The four lads have reformed and performed several gigs recently, after splitting up in 2005.

Blue have sold over 13 million records, including three number 1 hit singles with 'If You Come Back', 'Too Close' and 'Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word' - a duet with Elton John in December 2002.

Last year the UK came last with just 10 points and this will be the first time the UK public have not chosen the artist to represent them. The Eurovision Song Contest final on May 14th 2011 and will be shown on BBC1 with the two semi-final shows on BBC3 during the week.

Eurovision Winner Rybak Breaks Trophy

Alexander Rybak broke his Eurovision trophy within minutes, according to reports in The Sun. Apparently the 23-year-old was a bit heavy handed when he put the trophy down on the stage, causing the glass to shatter.

It's not all bad news for the Norwegian winner, his single 'Fairytale' looks set to be a massive hit around Europe. Here in the UK his Eurovision winner is riding high in the downloads chart and looks set to enter the Top 40 on Sunday.

Eurovision Viewing Figures Improve

The wet weather seems to have lifted this years viewing figures for the Eurovision Song Contest on BBC1. As Norway romped to victory with Alexander Rybak's 'Fairytale', the UK enjoyed it's highest score since 1998 with Jade Ewen finishing fifth, performing 'It's My Time'.

Eurovision gained an extra 700,000 viewers this year as an average of 7.8m tuning into the spectacular music event hosted by Russia. No expense was spared as Russia spent £20m putting on the best stage event ever seen during the 54 years of Eurovision. Viewing figures peaked as the final results came in - with almost 10m tuning in to finds out how the UK had fared in the contest. Over on ITV, Britain's Got Talent was watched by 9.8m - down on previous weeks but

still ahead of the Eurovision Song Contest.

VIDEO: Norway Eurovision Winner - Fairytale By Alexander Rybak

Here is the Eurovision Song Contest winning song by Norway's Alexander Rybak, who broke scoring records with 387 points as over 100 million viewers tuned in. The 54th Eurovision Song Contest saw a return of the music panel judges for each country as the votes were split 50/50 between the judges and phone votes.

Eurovison Viewing Figures To Drop

Eurovision looks set to lose even more viewers this year as the song contest once again goes head-to-head with ITV's Britain's Got Talent.

Viewing figures could well drop below seven million for the annual song contest with UK viewers opting for comfort with British talent rather than the prospect of a humiliating finish in Eurovision.

Last year 7.1m watched the Eurovision Song Contest as Andy Abraham came joint last and Terry Wogan bowed out after 30 years of hosting the event. This year less than 7m are expected to tune in as Jade performs 'It's My Time' for the UK. She is looks set to be a surprise hit with voters as the song has been well received across Eurpope and looks set for a decent result. Britain's Got Talent has been enjoying weekly viewing figures above the 11m mark as the programme continues to make headlines around the world, and could help end the UK's love/hate relationship with Eurovision. Two years ago 8.7m viewers were watching Eurovision on the BBC but a dip below 7m could raise calls for the long running event to be axed amid cries of block voting and frustration.

Whatever the result, British viewers will be glued to their TV sets watching men and women desperate for their 15 minutes of fame...................

Eurovision Song Contest: Jade - 'It's My Time' UK Video

The Eurovision Song Contest is upon us once again - so get out your flags, download your score cards and get the party started as the 54th Eurovision extravaganza kicks off on BBC3 tonight. This year there will be two semi-finals (Tues 12 / Thurs 14 May) as 18 countries battle it out in the first heat and 19 in the second semi-final selection.

Then the fireworks really kick off on Saturday night as Russia hosts the 25 finalists with Graham Norton taking over the mantle from long running host Terry Wogan. The rules have changed amid cries of block voting - now the points will be half phone votes, half music panel but you can be rest assured the results will still be no surprise.

Can the UK score more than the 14 points (25th) Andy Abraham scored last year in Belgrade, Serbia? Will favourites Norway win the contest? Would Cyprus award 12 points to Greece yet again?

New 'Abba' Song Returns To Eurovision Style

It's Eurovision season and it looks like ABBA have returned with a song made for the song contest. OK, slightly misleading as only half of ABBA have returned and the song isn't actually in the Eurovision Song Contest!

The bearded half of ABBA (yes the men!) - Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus are returning to their pop roots with their first pop songs in fifteen years and I've got to admit they are pretty damn good ( I'm a sucker for Euro pop and all things tacky). The video below entitled "Second Best To None" was written by the ABBA duo and features employees from the Hotel Rival in Stockholm.



The ABBA men have enjoyed a good working relationship since the demise of ABBA and enjoyed acclaimed success with Chess the musical in the 80's and other projects. The Benny Andersson Band will be releasing their English translation material in the UK on July 6th.

Maybe we could get ABBA to work on our Eurovision entry song for next year.............

Puppets Rule Irish Charts

Dustin the Turkey

Ireland has got a touch of "Eurovision" fever ahead of the massive event next month. It's surprise entry - a puppet called Dustin, is this weeks highest entry in the Irish charts. 'Irelande Douze Points' is new at number five and looks set to top the charts in Ireland over the next few weeks. Madonna and Justin Timberlake may have topped the UK charts last week but the duo had to settle with #2 as their single '4 Minutes' was unable to knock Sharon Shannon and Mundy's "The Galway Girl" from #1. The single has spent a massive 46 weeks in the Irish charts already.

Last Shadow Puppets

The Last Shadow Puppets, 'The Age of the Understatement' album made an impressive entry at #2, going the same way as The Kooks, 'Konk' a week prior. Both were unable to move Mary Black from the number one position. But it looks like the Last Shadow Puppets are heading for #1 in the UK on Sunday.

Eurovision: UK Enters Worst Song EVER!

The UK seem to have given up on Eurovision and have voted for a song that will earn them "nil" points at this year's Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade, Serbia on May 24th.

Andy Abraham's "Even If" song beat off a poor selection of Eurovision hopefuls but looks set to have the UK propping up the bottom of the leader board when Europe votes in the contest.

Ireland will easily beat the UK in this year's contest for their turkey entry because it has more substance than the totally bland "Even If" song. At the end of the day - you get what you vote for!

Eurovision: Let's Get Daz Sampson Back!

You might remember Daz Sampson from the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest with his rap tune "Teenage Life". While it he may have failed to secure the points, it hasn't stopped him creating a brand new Eurovision tune. "Do A Little Dance" is an infectious song that will have you hooked after just one play. Sadly the BBC don't agree and have banned it from making the short list, according to Popjustice.com.

I say, "let's get Daz Sampson back in Eurovision" - whoever you are, where ever you are - download the song and promote it however you see fit. Check out the video I made today in honour of this true Eurovision hit that may never be.......................

Ireland Enter A Turkey For Eurovision!

With just three months until the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest, Ireland has caused the biggest stir of the year by entering a puppet as it's chosen artist. Dustin the Turkey was the winner of the vote this weekend and could go on to cause the biggest upset in Eurovision history - unless he gets banned before!

Hat's off to the Irish, who have come up with a great idea. Let's face it - Ireland had only entered crap songs in recent years anyway! Maybe the UK could take a feather from Dustin, and enter something wild and wacky for this years contest.

Eurovision Song Contest FINAL Result 2007

Serbian winner.

Serbia's Marija Serifovic went on to win the Eurovision Song Contest Final 2007, as the results table below shows. As with the Semi Final, Eastern European nations dominated the contest while the "power 5" Western nations all finished near the bottom.

Even though the UK once again finished near the bottom with just 19 points, Scooch can be proud with their performance and their UK Chart position today has "Flying The Flag" at #5, which is the highest charting Eurovision song for a good number of years.Viewing figures from the UK also look healthy, with over night forcasts indicating around 11.3 million tuned in.

Scooch may well be representing GB at this years Eurovision Song Contest with their high camp song "Flying The Flag", but robmacca couldn't resist having a bit of fun while out at friends this week.

A Eurovision conversation and a few classic GB winning YouTube videos later - led robmacca and his friend Clare to make a fun copy-cat video on the spot. Enjoy the video and don't forget the Eurovision Song Contest is on BBC1 Saturday night......................

The countries that didn't get through the semi final were:

Israel, Cyprus, Iceland, Montenegro, Switzerland (my favourite!), The Netherlands, Albania, Denmark, Croatia, Poland, Czech Republic, Portugal, Norway, Malta, Andorra, Estonia, Belgium and Austria.

The results have shocked the Western European countries as NO traditional Western European country made it through the Semi Final stage and several favourties went out of the contest on Thursday night.

The final on Saturday night looks like being a very good Eurovision for Eastern European countries. Maybe the West could gang up and give the UK "12" points and bring some respectability back to the contest!

Eurovision Cock Up!

It wouldn't be Eurovision without some cock-up or other and Terry Wogan provided us with his best yet this weekend as he announced the wrong winner in the UK's "Making Your Mind Up" contest (as featured on "robmacca" a few days ago).



The UK voting public seem a bit twisted, but they rejected the bookies 3 favourite songs by well known artists, instead making it a show down between Scooch and Cyndi. As you can see in the video above, poor Terry Wogan announced that Cyndi had won and Fern announced that Scooch had won - bringing a few moments of total confusion for everyone. Over 6 million saw the mistake live on BBC1 and were finally told that Scooch were indeed going to be representing the UK in Eurovision this year.

Eurovision: Britain Makes It's Mind Up!

It's that time of the year where the UK voting public vote for the song they want to represent the nation for this years Eurovision Song Contest. Although recent years haven't faired too well for the UK, it hasn't stopped some well known musicians stepping forward for their stab at winning the most ridiculed musical event televised in the UK.

The most famous UK winners were Bucks Fizz back in 1981, and press reports in The Sun say the group look set to perform for the first time in 20 years, during Saturday nights "Making Your Mind Up" show on BBC1. Over 210,000 applications were made for the 600 seats available for the programme,according to Eurovision websites.
