Blur To Perform At Brit Awards 2012

Blur will be performing at the Brit Awards 2012 as they pick up their 'Outstanding Achievement Award', it has been confirmed. The band's bassist Alex James told XFM radio listeners, "We're going to play, which is brilliant, it's like putting the Blues Brothers back together."

The chart topping band won four Brit Awards while at the top of their career with 'Parklife', taking home best album, best single, best video and best group in 1995. Blur reformed briefly in the summer of 2009, including an emotional performance at Glastonbury (see video below) - but fans were left wanting more after the Britpop band went their separate ways once again.

Alex James remained tight lipped about the future prospects of  Blur returning to the music world with a tour or new songs as he spoke to XFM, "Well, lets hope - heritage year next year..... be good wouldn't it? I wish I could tell you more. I'm sure it will happen one day but I don't know when. It's quite nice to keep it special."

GaGa Goes Acoustic At Brits

Lady GaGa has thrown the Brit Awards into confusion by ditching her expensive show performance in favour of an acoustic performance as a tribute to fashion guru Alexander McQueen. The singer has been so upset at McQueen's tragic death that she wanted to dedicate her performance at the Brit Awards to the 40 year-old Brit.

Find out later who wins at the 30th Brit Awards as robmacca's Entertainment News brings the results as they happen............

Kylie To Host Brit Awards 2009

Kylie Minogue

Kylie Minogue is to present the Brit Awards in February 2009, according to an ITV insider. The Aussie pop star will team up with James Corden and Mathew Horne (Gavin and Stacey) in hosting the music awards show from London's Earl's Court.

Last year Ozzy Osbourne and wife Sharon presented the Brit Awards on ITV, watched by millions, making it the biggest music awards bash in the UK. Next year could be the best yet with the Pet Shop Boys already being announced as winners of the Outstanding Contribution To Music award.

The Brit Awards show takes place on Wednesday 18th February 2009.

Brit Award 2008: More S**t Than Brit!

The Brit Award nominations were revealed last night (full list HERE) and I've got to say the awards seem more "S**t" than "Brit". Partly due to the multiple nominations of the same artists, which then leads to the lack of variety.

I was expecting Coventry band, The Enemy to be in the "Breakthrough Act" after a year of constant touring, a number one album and four singles in the Top 40. Instead we are offered two artists, Leona Lewis and Mika that have 8 nominations between them, Kate Nash (3 nominations), the Klaxons (2 nominations) and finally Bat For Lashes (2 nominations). It would have been more interesting to have at least one artist in the nominations who wasn't listed in another category.

While I'm sure the Brit Awards 2008 will be fantastic, I can't help but feel it could have included nominations in a wider field. Back in June I predicted on "robmacca entertainment news" The Enemy would be in the nominations for "Breakthough Act", today I've been proved wrong - but I can't help bands like The Enemy (and many other artists) have been over looked in what seems to be a popularity contest. Meanwhile can Girls Aloud pick up their first Brit Award or will Take That beat them to it? - find out on February 20th!

    Music News Update

robmacca is away on holiday - so here is a quick music update while in Australia:

*UK album sales dropped 10.8% to 138.1 million during 2007 but single sales increased almost 20m to a total of 86.6m.

*EMI face one crisis after another, first Robbie Williams went on strike, Coldplay are considering leaving the company and now Kylie has stuck the boot in, blaming the company for her poor album sales.

    * Keep your eyes peeled as the Brit Award nominations become public this week, the Osbourne's will be presenting the show in February.

    * Mel C is to have all her tattoos removed, according to the News of the World today. The Spice Girl will have all ten removed at the end of the tour. Now think of the poor fans who copied her in getting the tattoos!

    * Britney Spears single, "Piece of Me" has knocked off X Factor winner Leon Jackson's "When You Believe" from the #1 position in the Irish charts. Britney managed to climb up to #2 in the UK this week.

    * The Enemy "We'll Live And Die In These Towns" album rose from #44 to #27 this week as it enjoys it's biggest climb in recent weeks. Tom Clarke, Andy Hopkins and Liam Watts have already started another busy year of gigs, returning to the UK from Germany.
