Pants!

Pants! (or as some might say "underwear")

Now the picture may well feature a rather hunky Michael from http://www.lushonline.com/models/males/michael.htm but in reality - pants can be a pain sometime. Now it might be because I'm feeling a bit crabby tonight but I just couldn't wait to get out of my pants. I'm normally a boxers sort of guy but on the odd occasion I've been known to wear pants but "oh my sweet lord" they can be so uncomfortable! I think my testicles felt like they just spent the day in a prison.

Thelma and Louise

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
I might be 14 years too late - but I finally got to watch "Thelma & Louise" tonight and it kinda fitted in with my thought of the day about how we so often think the grass is greener on the other side.
What should have been a fun weekend away from the usual run of the mill life, turned into something totally life changing. If only poor Louise hadn't got such an unlucky friend. Just when she'd hit rock bottom, something else would come along and make the situation even worse.

So often we pine for the grass on the other side because it looks so much better, then after we do everything to get there - it turns out to be even worse than where we'd just come from.

The situations we find ourselves in can corner or trap us, maybe even drive us over the edge but it's the experiences we gain along the way that make the lasting imprints on our minds and those whom we choose to take on that journey with us.........................

Childhood Memories..................

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Imagine living in a home with no heating system and no hot water. Hard to imagine when we take it for granted. But as I was talking to my work friends it reminded me of the time when living at home meant we had no hot water or heating for several years because my parents couldn't pay the gas bill.
As a 13 year old, that meant the only way to stay clean was to get into the kitchen sink with a bowl of boiled water to wash.
Image hosted by Photobucket.com That reality seemed to last forever yet didn't seem unusual because as a child I did not know any better.
I remember my headmaster coming up to me at school and saying I could use the school showers if I wanted. Some might look down on that and view my family as poor - but I see something else. I see another example of kindness, I don't know how my headmaster knew about my home situation (unless he could smell me of course!) but he very lovingly took me too one side and extended that kind offer.

I never did use those school showers but rather lived by my weekly washes at the kitchen sink (I'm hoping it was more than once a week but I've got a feeling it wasn't!). Looking back, growing up at home wasn't ideal. We had no hot water or heating but what we did have was LOVE. I know without a shadow of a doubt both my parents loved me and demonstrated this in many ways.

Björk : Why I like her

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

While I was doing the ironing earlier, I popped an old Bjork video on and it reminded me of why I like her so much.(Bjork - Royal Opera House [2002] ).
Bjork is not only the most creative artist, she has a child-like attitude that translates on stage. Her willingness to experiment with music and concepts is an inspiration. Who can forget her many styles of clothes? http://www.bjork.com/

Too "go with the flow" is easy but being original and stand out from the crowd takes guts. The risk is people will mock you or try and suppress that which challenges the norm.

I know I'll never be "normal" or fit into the stereotypical image, but I am so happy to be me. Most people my age are married or have a stressful career and have fallen into the "norm" of society. I like singing at the top of my voice as I walk around my house making up a song. I like being impulsive and doing crazy things. I like life!

robmacca's "World of Weirdness"

Image hosted by Photobucket.com It's a weird world we live in, or maybe it is just me that is weird. I thought I would do a spot of ironing today but was rather scared after I had filled the iron with water and then it began crackling and I thought it was about to blow up.
Robbie's Remedy: Pop on some black rubber gloves (to avoid electric shock) and carry on ironing !!

Monday Edit: It wasn't until I was discussing this at work today, that someone rightly pointed out that rubber gloves would not save me but would of made it worse by melting onto the iron. Instead rubber footwear would of saved me if the iron tried to electrocute me.

Acts of Kindness....................

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Sometimes it is the simple things in life that can have the most profound effect on us. I have been moved by three “Acts of Kindness” over the past week:

1. The Russian CD :

I opened up my home to Tatyana, who came over from Russia to visit the “Crufts” dog show. We are both members of a website called
http://www.hospitalityclub.org/ and so I hosted Tatyana for several days. It was my pleasure to welcome a visitor from Russia. I was given a Russian “pop” CD, which has really helped me to appreciate music from another part of the world. By opening up my home, I have also had my mind opened up to value people from other countries.

2. Sweets in the post :

This weekend I went to visit a family in Liverpool who have virtually “adopted” me. Over the past 19 months I have been friends with them and would visit when I could, but since changing jobs in October meant I could not afford to visit. So this family who have neither riches or wealth and only have 1 adult in 4 working, showed me great kindness. First they paid for half of the petrol so I could get to Liverpool. Then while I was there, opened up their home to me and looked after me.
I’d left my sunglasses behind and they posted them back, but included in the package were 4 large Quality Street sweets for me. As simple as it sounds, it was such an act of kindness – knowing they were thinking of me and making sacrifices. By making the effort to visit others I had been rewarded.

3. Email from a friend :

It was a real joy to receive an email from my Canadian friend Angie yesterday, although we’ve never met, we are both members of a Spice Girls related forum http://forums.denden.co.uk/ . Angie is such a caring person who gives so much too others, so it concerned me to hear she was having a tough time. I didn’t realise something as simple as sending a text message could help so much. What an act of kindness from Angie, to take time out and write an email thanking me for cheering her up.

All of these “Acts of Kindness” show that doing something for others brings rewards in return. It also proves that kindness is not measured in riches or wealth but in motives and being genuine. It is the simple things in life that can have the most profound effect on us, not the most expensive items in our home.

Why not carry out an “Act of Kindness” and see how you can have a positive effect in another person’s life!

Soap Award for the "Tear of the Year"

Coronation Street's Katy Harris.

Since her relationship with Martin Platt ended and events took a turn for the worse, this girl has not stopped crying. Every episode I watch she is crying - every scene she is in, Katy is having spasms. This girl deserves the Award for non-stop crying over the past few weeks.

Did she lose the script along the way? I think so, and in a bid to muddle through each episode, the directors have just let Katy cry her way through each scene instead! I've not seen her get through one scene where she's not crying.

Well done Katy - you win the award for "Tear of the Year" !!

Job Search

Since changing jobs back in October 2004, I've had to make a lot of changes. Each month has been a struggle to avoid overspending, that doesn't mean I've been "living it up". Quite the opposite, if I go out I simply cannot buy food too eat.

Which is a good reason why I've been looking for a new job - if you can't go out or shop after working hard all week then what's the point in doing that job?

I've passed a test and interview for a new job that is paying TWICE as much money, yet the job will be incredibly DULL.
Each week I buy the newspaper and hate looking because of the effort of filling in application forms, CV`s and interviews, only to be rejected or take a job you don't like.

Maybe I'll end up back at the Post Office in my postie shorts................

Eurovision 2005 Is Coming

Eurovision 2005 Posted by Hello

Its just 72 more days til the Eurovision Song Contest Final and I`m already gearing up for the best thing to ever come out of Europe. There is no other even in the world quite like "Eurovision", the Brits may not take it seriously but I know I love the whole event.
Javine is the United Kingdom entry this year with "Touch My Fire", it was the song I voted for last Saturday night, as I was frantically getting ready to go out. It made my night knowing she had won the UK selection.
The weekend of Eurovision in May I was going to see Geri as well but now she has postponed her tour I`ll have the whole weekend to get hyper, drunk and into a Euro frenzy.

Advert of the Week

Orange 3G Advert Posted by Hello

If you live in the UK, you may have seen the latest "Orange 3G" adverts on the TV this month. It`s the one where Elton John is playing his piano. The Orange guys come up promoting 3G mobile phones saying Elton could have one for his missus, but Elton turns around and says:

"But I`m gay" The classic response from the Orange team;

"Your gay ....... we`re ecstatic!"

That advert makes me laugh everytime I see it, I like the joke, and the way Elton John adds the sparkle to the humour.

Desperate Spicewives - Part 2.

Desperate Spicewives. Posted by Hello

"Hysteria Lane has fond memories for our 5 Desperate Spicewives, once upon a time they would all been seen together as the all conquering, all dancing girls but now life has taken a new twist for each of our Spicewives."

The most active among the clan has been Melanie C, she may have been quiet while everyone else was in the limelight, but sometimes the shadows can produce the most interesting designs! A new website, a new album and a new sexy look has certainly got people taking notice again. Could Melanie C end up having the last laugh over a certain Virgin? Watch out for the Next Best Superstar!

While one may be coming out to play, it seems another has run away..... Geri has suddenly retreated. There are more hold-ups from Miss H than in the whole of Wonder Bra. It`s looking a little empty on the album/single and tour front as a sudden change in manager`s meant all was not happy in the Geri camp. Maybe she should have a chat with Victoria Beckham and try a spot of diversification.

Some on the other hand are just happy to plod along and see what life brings whether its little parts in movies or dance records in the U.S. , our five neighbours waste no time. Not even having a baby is a holiday where our Desperate Spicewives are concerned.

Single of the Month

Britney: "Do Something" Posted by Hello

This is the most poptastic song of 2005 so far - it`s cheap, fast and sexy. It`s so "Toxix" but without the eye catching video!
I`ve been playing it in the car, licking my lips in a provocative manner while getting strange looks from the driver in front.
Thank goodness pop is still alive and well and shakin its ass on a dancefloor near you!

"Do Something" Lyrics:

Do u feel this?
I know you feel this
Are u ready?
I don’t think so
Somebody give me my truck
So I can ride on the clouds
So I can turn up the base… like
Somebody pass my guitar
So I can look like a star
And spend the cash… like
-Bridge-
What u gonna do when the crowd goes “ayo”
Why u standing on the wall?
Music’s starting everywhere!
So why don’t u just move along?
-Chorus-
I see u looking at me
Like I’m some kind of a freak
Get up out of your seat
Why don’t u do something?
I see you looking at me
Like I got what you need
Get up out of your seat
Why don’t u do something?
Now you all in my grill
Cause I say what I feel
Only rock to what’s real
Bump bump
But I can’t do that with you
I’ll be here with my crew
You can roll if you can
Don’t be a punk punk!!!
-Bridge-
What u gonna do when the crowd goes “ayo”
Why u standing on the wall?
Music’s starting everywhere!
So why don’t u just move along?
-Chorus-
I see u looking at me
Like I’m some kind of a freak
Get up out of your seat
Why don’t u do something?
I see you looking at me
Like I got what you need
Get up out of your seat
Why don’t u do something?
I see u looking at me
Like I’m some kind of a freak
Get up out of your seat
Why don’t u do something?
-Instrumental-
Uh huh
I see you lookin over here
Can’t you tell I’m having fun?
If you know it like I know
You would stop!!!
Staring at us
And get your own space
And do something!!!
-Chorus-
I see u looking at me
Like I’m some kind of a freak
Get up out of your seat
Why don’t u do something?
I see you looking at me
Like I got what you need
Get up out of your seat
Why don’t u do something?
I see u looking at me
Like I’m some kind of a freak
Get up out of your seat
Why don’t u do something?
F***!!!
Do something!!!
Why don't you do something?!
